A Full-Stack Private Cloud That Replaces VMware

Replace the whole VMware estate, not just the hypervisor: vSphere, vSAN, NSX, Site Recovery Manager, Aria and Tanzu map to XaasIO platforms that are built, delivered and operated together. Migrate in waves with Virt-v2v, keep the VMware source intact until acceptance, and land on a private cloud with a documented release cycle instead of a renewal.
Built on XaasIO Virtualization, Compute, HCI, SDS, NFV, DR and Replication, Kubernetes, CMP, MLT, and Unified Automation, with the IAM, Directory, and Backup modules. Validated as one architecture under XaasIO Software Lifecycle Management.
Why now

What Gets in the Way

Renewal pressure without a complete alternative

Replacing ESXi alone leaves vSAN, NSX, SRM, Aria and Tanzu in place, each with its own renewal, so the estate never actually leaves.

Migration risk

VM conversion without wave planning, validation gates and a rollback path turns a platform change into an outage risk for every application owner.

Operations after the move

A new hypervisor without monitoring, automation, DR and runbooks is a project, not a platform. Day 2 has to be designed in from the start.
Use cases

What You Can Deliver

Virtual machine estate

Long-lived Windows and Linux VMs with HA, live migration, backup and software-defined networking on XaasIO Virtualization, or with OpenStack self-service on XaasIO Compute.

Storage and HCI

vSAN and external arrays replaced by Ceph on XaasIO SDS, as a converged design with existing arrays or as XaasIO HCI with coordinated cluster lifecycle.

Network services

NSX load balancing, VPN and firewall functions delivered by XaasIO NFV and OpenStack networking, with the same tenant and project model.

Disaster recovery

Site Recovery Manager replaced by the XaasIO DR and Replication Platform: replication, recovery plans, failover and failback drills.

Management and automation

vCenter, Aria Operations and vROps functions delivered by XaasIO CMP with Ansible AWX, XaasIO MLT and the Unified Automation Platform.

Containers and Tanzu

Tanzu clusters replaced by conformant Kubernetes on the XaasIO Kubernetes Platform, sharing the estate’s networking, Ceph storage and identity from the IAM and Directory modules.

How XaasIO delivers it

Wave-based migration with Virt-v2v

Pilot, non-critical and core production waves with pre-checks, conversion, driver validation, network and storage verification, application acceptance and sign-off. The source stays intact until acceptance.

Two landing zones, one management plane

VM-first estates land on XaasIO Virtualization; cloud-style estates land on XaasIO Compute. XaasIO CMP manages both, plus the remaining VMware estate during the move.

Storage, networking and DR included

Ceph block and object storage, NFV network services and the DR and Replication Platform are part of the design, so nothing stays behind on VMware licensing.

Identity and backup included

Directory and IAM integration with single sign-on and MFA across every platform in the stack, plus backup policy, scheduling, retention and restore management for the migrated estate.

Operated under one lifecycle

Monitoring, logging and telemetry from day one, AI-assisted operations as an option, and a documented release cycle for every platform in the stack.

Who it is for

Built for Organizations Like These

Enterprises at renewal

Estates of hundreds to thousands of VMs facing a VMware renewal and looking for a complete, supported alternative rather than a partial one.

Regulated and sovereign operators

Banks, utilities, healthcare and public bodies that need the replacement to run on their own hardware under their own identity and controls.

Service providers

Hosting and managed service providers moving customer estates off VMware to a platform they can bill through the XaasIO Hyperscaler Platform.
How to start

From Assessment to Operations

01

2 weeks

Assess

Inventory, dependencies, sizing, landing-zone decision per workload group, component mapping, wave plan and rollback strategy.

02

2 to 4 weeks

Build

Deploy Virtualization or Compute, SDS, NFV, DR, CMP, MLT and identity; validate the landing zone.

03

Per wave

Migrate

Pilot, non-critical and core production waves with Virt-v2v and acceptance sign-off.

04

Ongoing

Stabilize and operate

Runbooks, monitoring, DR drills, knowledge transfer; your team or a XaasIO SRE Pod.

Durations are typical for a mid-sized estate and are confirmed in the assessment. Every phase ends with a written deliverable and a decision point.

Why XaasIO

One Vendor for the Whole Stack, One Lifecycle for All of It

Validated as One Architecture

The platforms in this solution are tested together, not assembled on site, so the integration burden stays with XaasIO.

Controlled Lifecycle

Every platform and module follows XaasIO Software Lifecycle Management:a release identity, documented patching and upgrade paths, compatibility and rollback procedures.

Software Supply Chain Assurance

Upstream and XaasIO release SBOMs, signed artifacts, license and vulnerability review and SPDX or CycloneDX outputs for audit evidence.

Flexible Operating Model

Customer-operated with XaasIO support, co-managed, fully managed or a dedicated XaasIO SRE Pod, with 16×5 or 24×7 coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Does this replace everything VMware, or just the hypervisor?
Everything in the stack: hypervisor, storage, networking, disaster recovery, management, automation and Kubernetes, each mapped to a XaasIO platform or module that is built, released and supported with the rest.
How do we choose between XaasIO Virtualization and XaasIO Compute?
By operating model. XaasIO Virtualization keeps a VM-first model with clusters, HA, live migration and backup and no cloud tenant model, which suits long-lived estates. XaasIO Compute adds OpenStack projects, quotas, APIs and self-service. The assessment maps each workload group, and many estates use both under one CMP.
How are VMs moved?
With Virt-v2v in controlled waves inside planned windows: pre-checks, conversion, boot and driver validation, network and storage verification, application acceptance and sign-off. The VMware source remains intact until acceptance is complete.
What happens to vSAN and our arrays?
Ceph on XaasIO SDS replaces vSAN, either as a hyperconverged design on the same hosts (XaasIO HCI) or as a converged design that keeps existing shared arrays where they still make sense.
What replaces SRM and Tanzu?
The XaasIO DR and Replication Platform replaces Site Recovery Manager with replication, recovery plans, failover and failback drills; the XaasIO Kubernetes Platform replaces Tanzu with conformant Kubernetes clusters that share the estate’s identity, networking and Ceph storage.
Who runs it afterwards?
Your team after knowledge transfer with XaasIO support, or a XaasIO SRE Pod with 16×5 or 24×7 coverage under the XaasIO Software Lifecycle Management release cycle.
